ISO 9001 is the most widely used management system standard in the world, and for many Egyptian companies it is the first certification a customer or tender asks for. The process is predictable once you know the stages.
1. Gap assessment
Compare how you work today with each clause of ISO 9001:2015. Most organisations already do much of what the standard requires; the gap is usually documentation, measurement and internal audit.
2. Build the system
Define your processes, quality policy and objectives, then write only the documented information the standard and your processes actually need. Keep procedures short and written by the people who use them.
3. Implement and collect evidence
Run the system for at least two to three months so there are records to show: objectives tracked, customer feedback reviewed, corrective actions closed.
4. Internal audit and management review
Both are mandatory before certification. The internal audit tests every process; management review shows leadership has looked at the results and decided on improvements.
5. Certification audit
An accredited certification body carries out a Stage 1 audit (documentation and readiness) and a Stage 2 audit (implementation). The certificate is valid for three years, with surveillance audits every year.
How long does it take?
For a small or medium organisation with committed management, four to nine months from gap assessment to certificate is typical. Choose a certification body accredited by a recognised accreditation body, as customers and tenders may check.
